Obituary Condolences

EAST ARLINGTON -- Blanche Somers Park, a resident of Old Mill Road in East Arlington, died on Tuesday evening, March 18, 2003, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born in North Shaftsbury on Oct. 11, 1909 and was the daughter of Edward and Miriam (Buck) Somers. She received her education in the one room schoolhouse on Maple Hill in Shaftsbury. She moved to East Arlington from Maple Hill in 1929.

On Dec. 26, 1929 she married Arthur Park at the Congregational Church of East Arlington, with the Rev. Mabel T. Winch, officiating. Mr. Park died in 1990. The Parks had been married for 61 years at the time of his death. She was a devoted wife. Mrs. Park often volunteered at the rummage sales that were held at the Federated Church over the years. She enjoyed making crafts, especially small beaded wreaths at holiday time to be used as ornaments. Mrs. Park loved spending her time with little children.

She is survived by two nephews, Roy Crofut and his wife Mabel of West Arlington, and Phil Sherwin of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three nieces,Doris Wright of West Arlington, Diane Marckres of Naples FL, and Donna Wojack of St. John’s, Ind. Also she is survived by her great-niece and caregiver, Deborah Dahm of Sandgate. There are many other great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins, as well as many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Mrs. Park is predeceased by two sisters; Rena Crofut and Peace Mattison.

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Federated Church of East Arlington with the Rev. Jordan Dickinson, officiating. Interment will following the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington. There are no calling hours scheduled.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad or the Manchester Health Services in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel, a Selected Independent Funeral Home, at P.O. Box 528 Arlington, Vermont 05250.
