Brian J. Gawlik

1961-2009 MANCHESTER, VT Brian J. Gawlik of Manchester died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on Dec. 8, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was 48 years old.

For the past 10 years, Brian has held the Jonathan Levin Faculty Chair for Technology at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester where he taught digital film and television news production. He was a beloved teacher and valued colleague and friend to everyone at Burr and Burton. He was also for many years a volunteer with the committee responsible for the annual summer event to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Born on March 25, 1961, in New York City, Brian moved with his family to Sunderland in 1973. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Lyndon State College in 1983, he worked for the college's News LINC program. He went on to be a freelance editor and videographer for CNN and MSNBC and worked for Galaxy Broadcasting in Bondville before coming to Burr and Burton.

Brian is survived by his parents, Helen and Joseph Gawlik, of Manchester, his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Wendy Gawlik of Manchester; his brother, Gregg Gawlik of Pawlet, his sister and brother-in-law, Jeannine and Eric Lonsway, and nephew and niece, Quinn and Maeve Lonsway of Portland, Ore.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Christ Our Saviour (formerly St. Paul's) Church in Manchester at 11 a.m.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Burr and Burton Academy, 57 Seminary Avenue, Manchester, VT. 05254 to be used for the film and communications program.
