1944-2016 BENNINGTON Bryan B. Oakes, a resident of Morgan St. in Bennington died Saturday September 24, 2016 at his residence following a long illness. He was born in Bennington, VT December 22, 1944. He was the son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Jordan) Oakes. Bryan received his education in Bennington where he attended Saint Francis de Sales Academy and was a 1962 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School. Mr. Oakes served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. In earlier years Bryan was employed at British Motorcycles Sales in Brunswick, N.Y.. He later worked at Gerald E. Morrissey Construction in Bennington and for the last few years has been self- employed. He was a life member of both the VFW Post 1332 and the Bennington Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycling. Bryan enjoyed working with wood and was a fine cabinet maker. Survivors include a daughter Laurie Berard of Bennington, his longtime companion Jean M. Berard of Bennington, a step daughter Tammy Berard of Bennington; two sisters, Zane Tetreault of Olympia, Washington and Agnes Flynn of Center Brunswick, NY; his grandchildren, Justin Potter II, Elizabeth Potter, Donald Carpenter III, Jeannie Carpenter and Chasity Vosburgh; his great grandchildren, Alexandrea Church, Kenneth Smith and Travis Smith along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sisters Katherine Goodrich and Marion Hicks and a brother Charles Oakes. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday September 29, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Military Honors will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Bryan B.
