1943 - 2014 BENNINGTON Bud Main, 70, a resident of Frank Street died Sunday Aug. 17, at home following a brief illness. He was born in Bennington, September 18, 1943. Bud was the son of Hiland Main Sr. and Elizabeth (Evans) Main. He received his education in Bennington and was a 1961 graduate of Bennington High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army. Bud was employed as a butcher. In earlier years he worked at the Super Duper and P&C in Bennington. For many years he worked at the Grand Union in both Bennington and Wilmington from which he retired. Following his retirement Bud was also a Foster Parent and over the years had fostered 180 children. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his pool. Survivors include his children and their spouses; Michael Main of Shushan, N.Y., Stephen and Amber Main of Bennington, and Kathleen (Main) and D.J. Lingener of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson; two brothers, Charles Main of Olympia, Wash. and James Main of Bennington; two sisters, Ida Gage of Middletown, N.Y. and Eloise Jacobs of Bennington, along with his special family friends, Jeffrey O'Dell and family, and Chad Raetz and family. Bud is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Friday Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Bud may be made to the Southwestern VT Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
