ADAMS, Mass. -- Mr. Burton Ford Dopp, 81, formerly of Commercial Street, Adams, died Monday, April 4, 2005, in the emergency room at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken earlier in the day.

He was born in Roxbury, Vt. on June 29, 1923, a son of the late Howard Dopp and Helen (Woolly) Dopp. He attended schools in Northfield, Vt.

Mr. Dopp was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was employed as a truck driver and was last employed by Allied Van Lines. He came to North Berkshire about 30 years ago. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

His wife was the former Lena Marciana, who died on March 19, 2003. They were married on June 2, 1952.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret L. Pettus and her husband Rick of Spotsylvania, Va. and Lucille L. Bruso and her husband William of Pownal, Vt.; two grandchildren, Brittany Pettus and Richard Pettus; and one sister, Leone Bell of Northfield.

One brother and two sisters are deceased: Dorothy Bashaw, Arlene Bryant and Merland Dopp.

A memorial service for Burton Dopp will be held Friday afternoon, April 8, 2 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Jill Graham, pastor of the First Congregational Church in North Adams, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Northfield.
