EAST GLENVILLE, N.Y. -- C. Bruce Smith, 72, of Bellaire Drive, died Friday, March 5, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Bruce was born in Bronxville, the son of Hamilton and Dorothy Fitzroy Smith. He graduated from Canton High School, Canton, Conn. and Lower Canada College, and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later received his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from R.P.I. in 1959, a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

He was married to the former Jean Ann Downing on Aug. 9, 1956. Bruce was employed for many years for the General Electric Co. where he traveled extensively in middle management.

His experience in international travel for GE carried through with his family as he enjoyed numerous cross-country ventures with his loved ones. He was an avid hockey fan, a follower of the R.P.I. teams.

Bruce enjoyed problem solving as well as American history, the events leading to W.W. II and reading as much as he could.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jean Smith; a daughter, Susan Hull, of Latham and son-in-law Rostislav Kusnezov of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bruce was predeceased by his daughter Allison Kusnezov.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Burnt Hills U.M. Church, Route 50, Burnt Hills, NY 12027. Calling hours will be held prior from 10-11a.m. at the church and also on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville, NY 12302.

Interment will be at Park Cemetery, in Scotia, with contributions going to ASKMemorial Fund of Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, Multiple Sclerosis Society or Loudonville Christian School, 347 Loudon Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
