Calvin J. Bryson Sr.
1924 - 2010 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Calvin J. Bryson, Sr., 85, peacefully passed at home on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Ontario, Canada, son of Asahel and Winnifred Demaray Bryson. He was predeceased by his loving wives, Vevia Woodard and Evelyn Chambers; brothers, Kenneth Bryson, Clayton Bryson, Lloyd Bryson, and grandchildren Calvin Schneider and Sally Ann Schneider.
Cal was a general contractor and specialized in sandblasting, masonry, black topping, and restoration of older homes and barns. His accomplishments can be seen not only in this area but throughout his many travels since leaving Canada.
Cal was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and at one point held office of president of the local FOE in Hoosick Falls. He attended schools in Canada and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 48th Field Artillery in Canada.
He leaves his daughters, Arlene Barber (Harvey), Ruth Schneider-Sevigney (Joe), Reta Crandall (Alex), and Tina Bain (Phillip); sons, Russell A. Bryson (Valerie), Calvin J. Bryson Jr. (Kaitlyn), and Michael K. Durkin (Shirley); sister, Jean Smale; brother, Carlton Bryson (Lucille); 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieices and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Visitation will be at MAHAR FUNERAL HOME on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m., with funeral service Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Renessalaer for their loving care of our father, Cal, with a special thanks to Sandy. In leiu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Cal's memory may do so to the Community Hospice of Renssalaer County through the funeral home.
