HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Carl A. Taylor, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. He formerly resided on Elm Street with his wife Helen (Minsky) Taylor.

Carl was born on Feb. 14, 1914, in New York City, son of the late Alonzie and Louise (Schmidt) Taylor. He was educated at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. Carl was a master woodworker and did his apprenticeship in New York City. During World War II he built PT boats for the U.S. Navy.

He was also very active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a leader and receiving the Silver Beaver Award. Carl was also active with the executive branch of the Boy Scouts. He taught woodworking at the Charles H. McCann Vocational School in North Adams, Mass., and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Lindenhurst. Carl was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors other than his wife, Helen, include two daughters, Diane Cioffi of Stewart Manor and Donna Wagner of Garden City; his son, Carl R. Taylor of Stamford, Vt.; his sister, Lucile Quicker of Toms River, N.J.; also five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Falls Health Center through the funeral home.
