Carl E. Mattson
1936 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Carl E. Mattson, 73, a resident of Caroline Drive, Bennington, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his family and following a long illness.
Born in Montpelier July 8, 1936, son of the late Ernst J. and Laura D. Chaloux Mattson, Carl received his education in the Barre schools and was a graduate of the Spaulding High School.
A veteran of the Korean War, Carl served in the Air Force during that time and was stationed in England. He married the former Yvonne Ross in England on Dec. 14, 1948.
Carl had been employed by the former New England Telephone Company for over 25 years as a Rated Switchman until the time of his retirement.
A communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, Carl was also a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington and a former member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567. Carl enjoyed boating and camping on Lake St. Catherine.
He leaves his wife, Yvonne Mattson; two daughters, Linda Mattson of Bennington and Nancy Wilkinson of Petersburgh, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl A. and Karen Mattson of Guilderland, N.Y., and Eric J. and Penny Mattson of Cambridge, N.Y.; seven grandsons and one granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves three brothers, Ronald, Donald, and Dean Mattson. Carl is also survived by his loving pal "Joey."
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, March 26, 2010, at 10:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 11 a.m., where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery, North Bennington.
