Carl N. Santo 1920-2011 BENNINGTON Carl N. Santo, 90, a long time resident of Washington Avenue, Bennington, died with his family at his side Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness. Born in Bennington June 1, 1920, he was the son of the late Patsy and Irene (White) Santo. Carl received his education in Bennington and was a 1938 graduate of Bennington High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. Carl married the former Florence Bridge at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington on June 19, 1948. In earlier years Carl was employed at Baldwin Locomotive in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. He later worked at the former Sibley's Manufacturing Company for fourteen years, followed by a time at Tansitor Electronics and later at the Stanley Tool Company in Shaftsbury until the time of his retirement. Carl was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Bennington and also a member of American Legion Post 13. His hobbies included bowling, fishing, gardening and photography. Survivors include his wife, Florence Santo of Bennington; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol S. and Odell Johnston of Pittsford, Vt.; a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas C. Santo and Susan Marchant of Burlington, Vt.; grandchildren Catherine Matto, her husband Justin and Odell Johnston Jr.; a sister, Violetta C. Santo of Bennington. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Carl Santo will be held in the spring at a time to be announced. Burial will follow at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Carl N. Santo's memory may be made to either the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund or the First Baptist Church through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
