Carol (Dunn) Shehadi Obituary
Carol Dunn Shehadi passed away at home in Pawlet, Vermont on Thursday, July 5th. Bolstered by the devotion and care of her beloved husband and family, and a team of compassionate and dedicated caregivers, Carol was able to live out her final days surrounded by love and beauty. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Carol was the eldest child of Francis Prahm and Catherine Collins Dunn. She graduated from Benedictine Academy in 1952, and graduated from Caldwell College for Women in 1956 with a B.A. in English, where she was known for her sense of humor and intelligence. Carol then taught English at the junior high school level. After meeting at the Jersey Shore, Carol married Fred S. Shehadi Jr. Together they raised five children, three sons and two daughters. The family lived in New Jersey and Vermont. The family eventually grew to include 15 grandchildren. Carol and Fred made it their priority to provide plentiful opportunities over the years to gather and have fun together, resulting in the close and loving family we cherish today. Carol had an intelligence, grace, and sense of beauty that was evident in all areas of her life. She was a voracious reader, often found with a book or working on a crossword puzzle or knitting something for someone she loved. She always had a warm smile, a thoughtful comment, or a witty remark. Wherever Carol and Fred were living, Carol always found a place to volunteer her time. Some of her favorite places over the years were Youth Haven and the White Elephant , Naples, Florida and The Southern Vermont Art Center, Manchester, Vermont. Carol had great fun and spent countless hours cheering on the athletic accomplishments of her active family. A member of the Dorset Field Club in Dorset, Vermont, and the Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, Florida, Carol enjoyed her group of "9 Holers," and the camaraderie of her fellow players. Carol is survived by her husband of 62 years, Fred Shehadi Jr; her children: Fred Shehadi III, of Pawlet, VT; David Shehadi Sr. and wife Becky, of Dorset, VT; Karen Shehadi Frost and husband Mike, of Charlotte, VT; John Shehadi Sr. and wife Michelle, of Chatham, NJ and Dorset, Vermont; and Lauren Shehadi Herbert and husband Bob, of Dorset, VT. "Nana" is survived by her grandchildren: Kendall Frost and Colin Frost; Sarah Shehadi, Nina Shehadi, David Shehadi Jr, and Joseph Shehadi; Quinn Herbert, Drew Herbert, Hannah Herbert, and Carol Herbert; Julia Shehadi, John Shehadi Jr., Olivia Shehadi, and Will Shehadi; and baby Marina. Carol is also survived by her sisters Joyce Dunn Joyce (James) and Bonnie Rae Tallagnon (Dennis), and brother Tom Dunn, Noel Dunn and sister-in law Barbara Shehadi Kitson; She also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much, and her devoted pet of 13 years, Kibbee. Carol was predeceased by her sister-in-law Gail Shehadi Cross and brothers-in-law Bob Cross and Syd Kitson. Visiting hours will be held on July 20 at Brewster's Funeral Home, 34 Park St, Manchester Center, VT, 05255 from 4-7 pm. A Celebratory Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 21 at St. Mary's Church, 23 Bulkley Ave, Granville, NY, 12832.
