1957-2013 Carol Marie Tunney M.D. 56, formerly of Williamstown and more recently of Bennington passed peacefully on Friday October, 25, 2013 in her home in the presence of her family. Carol, born in Penn Yan, N.Y., on February 21, 1957, was the daughter of Conrad and Janet (Reed) Tunney. She grew up in Penn Yan. Carol received her BS in Biology at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1979 and her medical degree at the State University of New York at Stoneybrook, specializing in OB/GYN in 1987. After doing her residency at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield MA, Carol practiced medicine in Schuylerville, NY, Cambridge, NY and Niskayuna, NY. She was an adjunct faculty member at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield MA, then at Southern Vermont College in Bennington VT where she was an assistant professor in the Division of Science and Technology and then Chairman of that division. Carol left the medical field and became a Shamanic Healing Practitioner in 2001. She will be remembered as a kind, generous woman who was a free spirit and enjoyed a great sense of humor. Her two dogs Jack and Jill provided her with much love and twelve years of memories. Carol leaves behind her parents Conrad and Janet Tunney of Penn Yan, NY, sisters Susan (David) Schneider of Rushville, NY, Beth (Vincent) Eckel of Baldwinsville, NY, Diane Tunney of Rochester, NY, niece Sarah Schneider and nephew Tom Eckel, aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many wonderful, loving friends. A Shamanic Drum Ritual was held in her memory on Sunday, October 27 at her home. An additional Shamanic Ritual will be held at a later date in Bennington, as will a Catholic Memorial Mass in her hometown of Penn Yan, NY. Memorial gifts my be made to either the Second Chance Animal Center in Shaftsbury or PAVE here in Bennington, in care of the Hanson Walbridge and Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main St, Bennington, VT, 05201.
