Caroline Ware 1928 - 2008 POWNAL Caroline J. "Connie" Ware, 79, wife of Gordon E. Ware, of County Road died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Vermont Veterans, following a long illness. Born at home in Bennington on Aug. 18, 1928, daughter of Martin and Marion Burt Cutler, she received her education in the Bennington schools. During World War II, Caroline was employed at Thomson Manufacturing and EZ Mills. For 19 years Connie was employed as a bartender at the Cozy Corner Restaurant in Williamstown, Mass. She also had been employed in the clubhouse at Green Mountain Race Track, at Mount Anthony Country Club and the Pownal Dairy Bar. Connie was a founding member of the American Legion Post 90 Auxillary in Pownal, and was a member of the VFW Auxillary in Bennington and the Senior Center in Pownal. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking beans and pies. She leaves her husband, Gordon E. Ware, whom she married Sept. 17, 1949, in Williamstown, Mass. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Gail Deery of Warwick, R.I.,and Leslie Messina and her husband, George, of Pownal; two sons, Burt C. Ware and his wife, Linda, of St. Petersburgh, Fla., and Kenneth Ware of Bennington; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; two sisters, Joan Ryan of Bennington and Patricia Knights of Manchester; a brother, Robert Cutler of Florida, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Caroline was predeceased by a son, Francis G. Ware, who died in 1959, and also by a brother and two sisters, Burt Cutler, Isabelle Gates and Beatrice Gauthier. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Monday, July 21, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington with Rev. Gary Rogers, pastor of the North Pownal Congregational Church, officiating. At Mrs. Ware's request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the family lot at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown, Mass. Should friends desire, contributions in Caroline Ware's memory may be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
