MANCHESTER -- Caroline R. vandeVelde, 72, a resident of Dillingham Avenue in Manchester, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Flushing, N.Y. on Feb. 19, 1933, the daughter of Addison Grant and Helen (Hannon) Noble, and attended local schools.

She graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago, earning a bachelor’s degree in English. Caroline was an administrative assistant for the town of Manchester for many years and in the retail industry for several years, retiring from Kitchens By Design in Manchester. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, old movies, singing and gardening. She was a wonderful cook and loved being by the ocean or on a lake.

She was married to Christopher vandeVelde on Dec. 30, 1964 by her father, who was an Episcopalian minister in Williamstown.

Caroline is survived by Mr. vandeVelde; two daughters, Tara Senecal of Winhall and Tamarack vandeVelde of Connecticut; and three grandchildren, Murray and Lucy Senecal and Forrest vandeVelde. At the request of the family, funeral services and interment will be private.
