Obituary Condolences

RUPERT -- Carolyn H. Swart died Oct. 14, 2005, at the Orchard Nursing Centre in Granville, N.Y.

She was born Oct. 22, 1910, to William and Adeline (Buckley) Huyler in Hackensack, N.J. She was predeceased by her husband, Craig Swart. She is survived by three children, Peter Swart of Riverside, Calif., Judith Webb of Sewanee, Tenn. and Kate Canning of Rupert; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Settling in Vermont in 1950, Carolyn owned and operated the Black Shutters bed and breakfast in Weston for many years.

Mom crossed over peacefully just eight days before her 95th birthday. She will be remembered as a woman of great strength, beauty and wit. Her love of nature and music and her faith in God are gifts she passed on to all who knew her. She had a lifelong love of animals, especially her cats having adopted many a stray.

In her later years, even with a gradual loss of memory, she remained the Scrabble “queen” often beating all comers. Her sense of humor and penchant for quips have left many memories of humorous moments.

We will all remember her favorite prayer, “The light of God surrounds me, the love of God enfolds me, the power of God protects me, wherever I am, God is there.”

Mom will be held in our hearts as her journey continues. There will be a memorial service held next spring at the cemetery in Weston. The date will be announced later.
