MANCHESTER -- Carolyn Ruth Ritchie, 86, a longtime resident of Manchester and Sunderland, died Sunday morning March 14, 2004 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington.

Mrs. Ritchie was born in Troy, N.Y. on Aug. 22,1917; she was the only child of Arthur and Cressie (Howland) Moffat. She attended schools in Manchester, including Burr and Burton Seminary.

She was married to Henry Ritchie on Oct. 25,1935 in the home her father built, now Mulligan’s Restaurant; Mr. Ritchie died Feb. 16, 2000.

Mrs. Ritchie was a member and leader of the 4-H Club in Manchester for many years; she was also a member of the Mt. Equinox Grange for close to 60 years and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Manchester.

She is survived by her two sons, Ronald Ritchie and wife Susan and Jack Ritchie and wife Kay all of Arlington; two daughters, Joan Colvin of Springhill, Fla. and Virginia Martin of Eureka, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Manchester on Saturday March 20 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Kamm officiating. There are no calling hours. Private burial with committal prayers will take place in the family lot in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the First Baptist Church of Manchester in care of Brewster Funeral Service, P. O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
