Obituary Condolences

WOODSTOCK -- Carolyn Joan (Sutton) Sprague, 73, a resident of Woodstock Road, and formerly of Whitingham, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family following a long battle with kidney failure. Carolyn was born in Whitingham on July 9, 1934, the second daughter of Wilton and Beulah (Pease) Sutton. She attended local schools and Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg, Mass., as well as completing several EMT and community college courses.

Carolyn enjoyed browsing through antique shops and had a large collection of cups, saucers and cruets. She also enjoyed adding to a large set of dishes brought here from England by her great-great aunt in the late 1800’s. She enjoyed attending blue grass festivals with her two sons. In addition to working at home she also worked at the Book Press in Brattleboro, the Claremont New Hampshire Police Department and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., for many years. She was a former member of the Grange, served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Rebekahs and was an active 4-H leader.

Carolyn is survived by six sons and a daughter, Donald and wife Shirley of Bellows Falls, Frank of Whitingham, Mark of West Dover, Martin and his wife Karen of Whitingham, Tom of Brattleboro, Larry and his wife Angela of Woodstock and Mary Crockett and her husband Wayne of Clarendon; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins, one special nephew; and her former husband Harold (Bud) Sprague of Whitingham.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was pre-deceased by her sister Norma Jean Neidzwiecki in 2000; a 15-year-old son, David, in 1970; and three infant sons, Alan in 1957, Ted in 1962 and John in 1965.

Funeral services for Carolyn will be held Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Readsboro. Pastor Eric May will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot in North Hill Cemetery in Readsboro. At Carolyn’s request there will be no calling hours.
