Carroll B. Cross

1923 - 2014 BENNINGTON Mr. Carroll B. Cross, 91, a longtime resident of Crossover Road died unexpectedly on Wednesday Nov. 26, at his residence while snow blowing his driveway. He was born in Bennington, on Sept. 3, 1923. He was the son of the late Ezekiel and Inez (Montgomery) Cross. Carroll received his education in the Bennington Schools. Mr. Cross married the former Anna G. Elwell in Shaftsbury, Vt. on April 3, 1943. Mrs. Cross died July 27, 2013. For ten years Mr. Cross was employed by the State of Vermont Highway Department and was later employed at the Bennington Banner for twenty years. He then became the Superintendent of Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington for fifteen years. Mr. and Mrs. Cross established Carroll's Offset Camera in 1972 and ran it together until 1992 when they retired and sold the business to their daughter Linda. Following his retirement Carroll was employed part time at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home. Survivors include his daughters, Gale Wisher, and Linda Corey (Don) of Bennington; a son, Mirle Cross of Stoddard, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Heidi Zorian, Kim Corey, Donald "DJ" Corey Jr., Tammy MacPherson, Daniel Mulvey, Beth Bemis and Stefanie Cross; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Frieda Sears; and two brothers, Ludell Cross and Ezekiel "Zeke" Cross. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the White Chapel Church on Chapel Road on Sunday Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Saturday Nov. 29, 2014 from 2 - 4 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington. If friends desire contributions in memory of Mr. Cross may be made to either the White Chapel Society or BPI through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
