Casper H. Smith 1927-2010 SHAFTSBURY Mr. Casper H. Smith 83, formerly a longtime resident of Manchester and a resident of Paran Road died peacefully Saturday December 18, 2010 at Crescent Manor Care Centers. Mr. Smith was born at home in Pawlet on May 14, 1927, he was the son of Theodore R. and Arlene (Croff) Smith, he grew up in Pawlet where he attended local schools. He was married to the former Mildred Moore in Pawlet on November 23, 1943, they had resided in Manchester for 49 years before relocating to Shaftsbury in 2002. For 56 years he had worked for John McCormick Jr. on his dairy farm in Pawlet and his estate in Manchester, at the same time, he also owned and operated a landscaping business and later a firewood business supplying wood to many residents of the Manchester area. Mr. Smith was a hard working man and an avid outdoorsman, and had enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves his wife of 67 years Mildred Smith of Shaftsbury, sons Edward and his wife Theresa Smith of Bennington and Ronald Smith of Manchester Center, daughter Diane Smith Tucker and husband Robert Tucker of Montpelier, grandchildren; Rob Tucker, Jennifer Tucker Weaver, Darrin Smith, Derrick Smith, Jamie Smith, Jill Smith Alderman and Tara Smith, eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Francis Smith and Milford Smith and his sister Shirley Coons. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 23 at 1 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center with Reverend Dr. James Gray pastor of the United Church of Christ, Dorset /East Rupert officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith family lot in Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Pawlet. There are no calling hours.
