NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Catherine Gertrude (Felix) Foster, 96, formerly of Ashland Park Apartments, North Adams, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Hoosick Falls Helath Center, Hoosick Falls, N.Y. where she was admitted on May 9, 2003.

She was born in North Adams on Nov. 17, 1906, a daughter of the late Louis A. Felix and Rose (Boyd) Felix. She was educated in North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1925 and the former North Adams Normal School (now Masachusetts College of Liberal Arts) with the class of 1927.

She was employed with the former J.J. Newberry Store on Main Street, North Adams as a sales clerk and supervisor for more than 40 years until her retirement. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the St. Francis Rosary Society. She also was an active member of the St. Francis Rosary Bowling Team, acquiring several trophies for outstanding single season highs and triples.

She was the widow of Daniel Newall Foster, whom she married on Oct. 12, 1935 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. He died on Sept. 22, 1955. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Foster of Eagle Bridge, N.Y. and James E. Foster and his wife, Joan (Winslow) Foster of Bennington, Vt.; and seven grandchildren, Kimberley Foster, Jeffrey Foster, Debra Foster, Daniel Foster, David Foster, Dawn Case and Denise Foster; three step-grandchildren, Stephen Dodge, David Trombley and Betsy Vattimo, 11 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Rose Simard and Lillian Dunn of North Adams and Helen Shertzer of Orlando, Fla. and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers including Verlie Rose, Margaret Deraway, Harold Felix, Henry Felix and Charles G. Felix.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 10:15 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Eagle Street North Adams.

Burial will follow in the Felix Family plot at Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Mass is Friday, July 4, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for St. Francis Church Building Fund through the funeral home.
