BENNINGTON - Catherine M. Murphy, 89, a resident of 100 Main St., Colonial Gardens in Bennington, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.
She was born in Bennington, Sept. 11, 1920, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Lillian Kelson Murphy.
She received her education in Bennington and was a 1939 graduate of Bennington High School and later attended Saint Joseph's Business College.
Catherine was employed as the office manager at Bennington Display for 32 years. She later worked in the bookkeeping department at the Hoosac School in Hoosick, N.Y. from which she retired.
She was a life long member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church and a member of Court of Saint Andrew, Catholic Daughters of America. Catherine was a member of the local AARP and for many years was a volunteer at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Survivors include five sisters, Mary Frances Murphy, Olga Dunn, and Joan Douglass, all of Bennington, Lena Senecal of Young Harris, Ga., and Barbara Molloy and her husband, Larry, of Arlington; two brothers, Joseph L. Murphy of Schenectady, N.Y. and Patrick J. Murphy and his wife, Arlene, of Bennington; a sister-in-law, Billie Murphy, of Mirmar, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catherine was pre-deceased by three sisters, Margaret McGuire, Agnes Knowles, Ann Flood; and two brothers, Thomas J. Murphy and Leo K. Murphy.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 7th, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. when the family will be in attendance.
The burial will take place in the family lot in the New Catholic Cemetery in Bennington.
If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to either Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church or one's favorite charity through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
