BENNINGTON -- Largely attended funeral services for Chad E. (Squiers) Kelly were held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 22. Officiating was the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Bennington. The Fireman’s Prayer was recited by Chief Kevin Goodhue of the Bennington Rural Fire Department.

The casket of Mr. Kelly was transported to the Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal aboard Bennington Rural Fire Departments truck number 46, of Company 3, the Beech Street station. Committal prayers were offered at the cemetery by the Rev. Estey.

Serving as bearers were Frank Gaudette, Chris Sherman Sr., John Meachem, Jason Lillie, Henry Cross and Shawn LaFountain.

Honorary bearers were brothers George and Michael Squiers. Officers and members of the Bennington Rural Fire Department formed an honor guard at the funeral home and at the cemetery. During calling hours on Saturday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, firefighters stood guard at each end of Mr. Kelly’s casket.

Among the many friends and relatives attending the calling hours were delegations from Bennington Rural Fire Department, Pownal Valley Fire Department, Bennington Fire Department and Wilmington Fire Department.

Mr. Kelly, 31, a resident of Chapel Road, died Aug. 18 at his parents’ home in Pownal.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
