Charles M. Clark

1939-2010 BENNINGTON Charles Martin Clark, 70, a resident of Applegate Drive in Bennington, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Whitinsville, Mass., on Dec. 13, 1939, son of the late Arthur G. and Helmi Aho Clark, he attended the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Conn.

Charles married the former Shirley Elliott on Nov. 24, 1965, in Worcester, Mass.

In earlier years, Charles was employed at Unity Feeds Company, John Adams Tool and Die Maker, and the Norton Company all of Worcester. He had also been employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., and as a carpenter.

He was a former member of the Worcester Deaf Club in Worcester, and was a Life Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 1861 in Bennington. He was a former member of the ICDA (Catholic Deaf) in Bennington. He was very active in efforts for the deaf and was past chairman of the Southwestern Association for the Deaf.

He enjoyed watching space and science shows and was active with Boys Scouts for fifteen years. He had a great sense of humor. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. His family and grandchildren were his main interest.

He leaves his wife, Shirley Clark, of Bennington; three sons, James Clark of Stockbridge, Mass., Martin Clark of Brattleboro, Vt., and Jeffrey Clark of Bennington; a daughter, Deborah LaBeau of Bennington; 11 grandchildren, Amy Benner, Madonna Royer, Chad and Curtis Clark, Amber Clark, Paul Achillies, Michael Clark, Marcus Clark, Katyana Clark, Cherie LaBeau, Austin LaBeau; three great-grandchildren, Destiny Royer, Nano Sun Faith and Curtis C. Simmons Clark; a brother, Arthur G. Clark of West Boylston, Mass.; a sister, Addie Pacarilli of Glenside, Pa.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Sandburg, Laura McDonald and Alice Spellman.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, Mar. 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer, and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday, Mar. 29, 2010 from 7-9 p.m.
