Charles F. Holden BENNINGTON - Funeral Services for Charles F. Holden were held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 where the Mass of Resurrection was offered by Rev. Vincent Coppola, C.S.C., associate pastor. Concelebrating was Rev. Michael Demasi, chaplain of Council 307, Knights of Columbus in Bennington. Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Mildred Pierce. Hymns offered during the funeral service were "On Eagles Wings", "Ave Maria", "Be Not Afraid", "Here I Am Lord", "Irish Blessing" and "Peace on Earth". Also offering a musical selection was Charles "Pete" Taylor who sang "My Tribute". The pall that draped Mr. Holden's casket during the funeral service was placed by his children and their spouses, Edgar and Joann Holden and Linda and Keith Vandale, and his two grandchildren, Nicholas Holden and Katie Vandale. A wooden cross was placed on the casket by his wife, Mary Hoyt Holden. The scriptural readings were offered by Leonard Anzivino, a family friend, and Susan Morse, a niece. The offertory gifts were presented by Edgar and Nicholas Holden and Linda and Katie Vandale. Words of remembrance were offered by Leonard Anzivino and a niece, Pamela Vachon. Serving as pallbearers were nephews Richard H. Vachon Jr., J. Thomas Vachon, Gregory Luke, Steven Luke and David Hoyt. Honorary bearers from the 4th Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus were Gerald Amadon, Daniel Amadon, Michael Downey and Francis Lajeunesse. A prayer service at the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME preceded the funeral mass. Thursday evening members of the Knights of Columbus offered the recitation of the Rosary in Mr. Holden's memory. Mr. Holden was a past Grand Knight and past District Deputy of the K. of C. Burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Coppola offering the committal prayers. Full military honors were accorded the World War II Marine Corps veteran by members of the Vermont National Guard Honor Guard, SSG Carl Smith, SSG David Bushee, SPC Shane Phillips, PFC Elizabeth Harrison, PV2 Elizabeth Merrills, SGT Daniel Brown, PV2 Michael Foster. Following taps and the rifle volley the American flag was folded and presented to Mr. Holden's wife. Following the service a reception was held at the parish center at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Mr. Holden, a resident of Spring Street, Bennington, died February 12, 2008 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.]]>
