Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Episcopal funeral services for Charles H. Elwell were held on Friday afternoon at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Anita Schell-Lambert, rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, officiating.

Assisting Mother Anita was Donna Maroney, who offered the prayers of petition and assisted with the Holy Eucharist. Mother Anita reflected upon Mr. Elwell’s love of the circus, his devotion to the church and his kind, gentle manner.

Burial followed in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Mother Anita offering the committal prayers. Full military honors were accorded the World War II Navy veteran by members of 2BN 172 Army Reserve. Taps were sounded by Spc. Pagan. The rifle squad consisted of Staff Sgt. Greenwood, Spc. First Class Mumley, Sgt. First Class Beattie and Spc. Kava. The American Flag draping the casket was folded by Sgt. Carvey and Spc. First Class Church and presented to Mr. Elwell’s daughter, Carol, by Sgt. Carvey.

Serving as bearers were Jon Hildreth, Bob Keith, Thomas Lloyd and Mark Shea.

Masonic funeral rites were held at the funeral home by members of Mt. Anthony F&AM with Worshipful Master James Chancey and Chaplain Gary Burgess leading the service.

Mr. Elwell, 84, a resident of Leonard Street, died Jan. 2, 2006, at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation following a brief illness.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
