STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. -- Charles H. Strobel, 69, of Route 22, died on Saturday at the home of his dear friend Margaret L. Lombard.

Born in Peru, Vt. on June 30, 1934, he was the son of Martha Merrihew Strobel of Lebanon, N.H. and the late Charles Strobel. He attended schools in Meriden, N.H. and enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. Most recently he worked as a driver/mechanic at Rouse’s Transportation in Canaan, retiring in 1998 after 23 years of service.

Survivors besides his mother and dear friend include his children, Charles Jr., John, Carl, Shane and Debra Strobel all of Lebanon, N.H.; his siblings, Virginia Smith, Dorothy Wallace, William and Donald Strobel, Helen Lambert, Lillian Audette, Richard and Robert Strobel, Mary Shatney and Bertha Oertel. He was predeceased by son Richard.

Cremation will be held at the Gardner Earl Crematorium in Troy with services in the spring. Contributions in Mr. Strobel’s memory may be made, to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County or Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center in care of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY 12168.
