MANCHESTER -- Charles Henry McLaughlin, 89, a lifelong resident of the Manchester area, most recently of Danby, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a long illness. He was born April 30, 1914 in East Poultney. the son of William and Mabel (Moyer) McLaughlin. He attended local schools.

Charles worked for many years in the Sweezey Lumber Mill in Manchester. He loved Vermont and the Northshire area. He also worked for and was active in the Manchester, V.F.W. He was a longtime member of the Manchester Eagles club. He was an avid card player and baseball fan and rarely missed the “Price Is Right” show. Most of all Charles liked people and likewise he was liked by all who knew him. He will be remembered as a good friend and neighbor.

He is survived by his daughters Virginia Weeks of Danby and Barbara Rockwell of Dawsonville, Ga.; his sisters Florence Marchaland and Dorothy French both of Poultney; also six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Francis McLaughlin, his brother Dewese McLaughlin and sister Leona Peacott.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7, 3 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester. The Rev. John Mitchell, pastor of the Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester, will officiate.
