Charles "Chuck" Houran, Jr.

1933 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Charles R. "Chuck" Houran, Jr., 76, a resident of Hicks Avenue, Bennington, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a long illness.

Born in Bennington July 26, 1933, son of the late Charles R. and Ruth Davenport Houran. Chuck received his education in the Bennington schools.

A retired member of the Air Force, Chuck was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He married the former Liang-Li (Lily) Chen in Taiwan on July 5, 1969. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Chuck was employed at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation and later at Eveready Battery until his retirement in 1995.

Chuck was a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington. He especially enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, playing poker and cooking.

He leaves his wife, Lily Houran of Bennington; three children, Craig Houran of St. Hedwig, Texas, Diana MacArthur and her husband, Duncan, of Cambridge, Mass., and Mark Houran and his wife, Alicia, of Bennington; six grandchildren, Sean, Katelynn, Matthew and Alec Houran and Harold and LiLi MacArthur; a brother, William Houran of Bennington; three sisters, Joyce Weatherbee of Colchester, Linda Harvey and her husband, Donald, of Shaftsbury and Jill Hurley of Bennington; a brother-in-law, John Maguire of Bennington; his mother-in-law, Hsien-Lan Wang, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Liang-Zu Chen and Liang-An Chen, all of Taiwan; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chuck was predeceased by a daughter, Tanya Houran, and by two sisters, Shirley Maguire and June Geddes; a brother-in-law, Robert Weatherbee; his father-in-law, Hong-Shu Chen and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Liang-Ting Chen and Jin-Tai Chen.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
