SALEM, N.Y. -- Charles F. “Goober” Lewis, 74, of Main Street, died Saturday, Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital.

He was born and educated in Middletown Springs, Vt., the son of the late Henry R. and Polly White Lewis Sr. Charlie worked on the family farms in Middletown Springs and East Wells, Vt., and also worked construction with Peabody & Bates.

Charles retired as a saw operator at Shushan Bentwood in Salem where he worked for many years retiring in 2005. Charlie enjoyed listening to country and western music and loved helping his neighbors and friends around Salem when they needed help with their chores.

He is survived by his brother, Carl Lewis and his wife Susie of Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, Marjory McLaughlin of South Poultney, Vt., Anna Bourn of Rutland, Vt., and Bertha Dennison and her husband, Roger, of Granville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Henry R. Lewis Jr., and Robert Lewis.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at 7 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, with the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at the Center Shaftsbury Cemetery in Shaftsbury, Vt., on Tuesday.
