Charles R. Armstrong

NORWICH -- Charles Robert Armstrong, 84, a resident of Norwich died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. Mr. Armstrong was born in Norwich on Oct. 15, 1921, he was the son of the late George M. and Wilma (Greenwood) Armstrong.

He received his education in Norwich and Hanover, N.H., schools. He was a World War II Air Force veteran serving from 1942 until 1945.

Throughout his life he was self- employed as an auto mechanic in Norwich. He was member of the VFW in White River Junction, American Legion Post in Norwich and the Elks in White River Junction. He had a great love of guns and was an avid gun collector, he enjoyed participating in skeet shoots and target practicing. He leaves a son, Robert C. Armstrong of Wilder; two daughters, Patricia C. Greene of Norwich and Susan Yacavone of Meriden, N.H., a sister, Ruth Ward of New York; and a brother, Wayne Armstrong of West Lebanon, N.H., his former wife Wanita (Leavitt) Armstrong of Norwich, whom he married in 1942; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Armstrong may be made to the American Legion of Norwich in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
