Charles T. "Tom" Cables Obituary
Charles Thomas "Tom" Cables, 63, returned to his heavenly home on February 19, 2017 after passing at his home in Bennington. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him throughout his life and ultimately gave him peace.

Tom was born to the late Charles and Joan (Gaskas) Cables, in Hartford, Connecticut on May 17, 1954. He grew up in East Hartford, CT, and graduated from Penney High School in 1972. He attended Castleton University in Vermont graduating with a degree in nursing.

In his youth, Tom spent many memorable trips to Vermont, enjoying skiing with his family. The Green Mountains always drew Tom back to the State he loved, and he finally settled in the Bennington area for the past several years. Tom was an avid music lover and spent countless hours perfecting his guitar-playing skills. He often talked of forming a Christian rock band so he could better share his faith.

Tom is survived by his daughter Kristen Cables of Connecticut and his granddaughter Aaliyah Gibson, each of whom were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his uncle Bob Cables and his wife Patty of Burlington, CT, his lifelong friend Kurt Hohmann of East Hartford, CT, uncle Don Cables and his wife Meg from Alabama, as well as several cousins, extended family and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Sasha and the entire staff at United Counseling Services in Bennington for their many years of caring compassionate support.

A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at Harvest Christian Ministries, 945 East Main Street, Bennington, VT on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 am.

Donations can be made to National Alliance on Mental Illness - Vermont (NAMI-VT) 600 Blair Park Road, Suite 301 Williston, VT 05495.
