Charles C. Vail

1923 - 2013 N. BENNINGTON Charles Christopher Vail a former resident of North Bennington passed away on April 18, 2013 in Muskegon, Michigan with his wife Sue by his side. Born in Bennington on September 17, 1923; son of Coney Fruitrich Vail and Charles Seymour Vail of N.Bennington. Charles received his education at N.Bennington High School and Vermont Technical College. He served in the Third Army during World War II and was at the Battle of the Bulge in the Tank Destroyer Division under General George Patton and eventually attended the General's funeral in Germany. Charles came home from the war to marry artist Ann Shelton and built a home in Bennington where they lived until Anne passed in 1974. He retired from Chemical Fabrics and moved to Lake Wales Florida where he met and married Susan Hunt in 1977 and then settled in Muskegon, Michigan. At his request Charles was buried at Fort Custer in Augusta, Michigan. He is survived by his sister Barbara Buxbaum, niece Dorothy Buxbaum, nephew David Buxbaum and grandnephew David Buxbaum. Charles was pre-deceased by his sister Dorothy Anne Vail in 1928. Donations in his memory may be made to the Catherine Corcoran Scholarship Fund.
