Obituary Condolences

NORTH PAWLET -- Charles W. Baker was born January 31, 1914 at his home in North Pawlet and died on November 14, 2003, also at home.

In 1934 he joined the C.C.C.’s and helped build the Waterbury Dam. He then worked building tunnels in New York City and Pennsylvania until he joined the Coast Guard in 1941. He was with the Coast Guard for the duration of World War II.

He married Joyce E. McCabe on May 25, 1945. Charles and Joyce lived in North Pawlet with their family. Charles was in the autobody business for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Carrie Baker and two brothers, Edward and Carl Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Baker and their children, Marie Labarbera and her husband, John of Lanesboro, Indiana; Roseann Meier and her husband, Dan of Sterling, Virginia; Susan Hosley and her husband, Terry of Pawlet; Charlene Webster and her husband, Charles of Arlington; and Charles Baker and his wife Andrea of West Brattleboro; two sisters, Mary Brown of Dover Plains, N.Y. and Mabel Connors of New Milford, Pa.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Joyce and Charles Baker’s residence in the afternoon and evening on Sunday, November 16.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Church, Rt. 153, West Pawlet with Father Thomas Zelker presiding. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mountainview Cemetery, Rt. 153. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dorset Nursing Association, P.O. Box 549, Dorset, VT 05201.
