Sarah Charline Allgood McNiff 1921-2010 MANCHESTER, VT Sarah Charline Allgood McNiff, 89, daughter of Lucy and Charles Allgood, passed away peacefully at her home in Manchester Center, Vt., on December 4, 2010. Charline was born in Knoxo, Mississippi on October 26, 1921, the oldest of seven children. After graduating from nursing school in Columbia, Mississippi, she worked as a nurse in the local hospital; later at Danbury (Connecticut) Hospital and in a private doctor's practice for an additional thirty-three years. She was a registered nurse for over sixty years. Charline married William R. McNiff of Danbury, Conn. in Mississippi on March 24, 1943. Her husband, an Army Sergeant stationed at Camp Shelby Mississippi, shipped out to Belgium almost immediately following their wedding. Following his service in World War II, they lived in Danbury where he operated the family business, McNiff's Tire Shop. They later moved to Brookfield, Connecticut. Charline was a member of the Congregational Church of Brookfield and later a member of the First Congregational Church in Manchester Village, Vermont. In Manchester she was very much involved in seniors' activities and her lifelong love of sewing. Mrs. McNiff was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1990. She is survived by her daughter Carol Joan (McNiff) and son-in-law, Paul Thomas Carroccio of Manchester Center, Vermont; her grandchildren, Paul William and Chrissy Carroccio of Dorset, Vermont and Amy Beth and Charlie McNeil and Charline's pride and joy, a great granddaughter Katie Grace McNeil of Glens Falls, New York. She also leaves a sister, Dorothy McMahon of Magnolia, Mississippi and a number of nieces and nephews in Connecticut, Louisiana and Mississippi. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Manchester Village, VT on Thursday December 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place on Saturday December 11, 2010 in Wooster Cemetery in Danbury, Conn., In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in memory of Charline be made to the First Congregational Church c/o Brewster Funeral Service PO Box 885 Manchester, VT 05255.
