Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- Charlotte Payne, 77, a longtime resident of Manchester, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in the Centers for the Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

She was born Oct. 13, 1926 in Sandgate, the daughter of Fredrick and Elinor “Naylor” Woodcock. She went to elementary school in Sandgate, then moved to Saratoga, N.Y., where she graduated from high school.

She moved to Manchester in 1945 and married George Payne Jr. George died in 1995. Charlotte worked for 30 years cooking in the Colburn House and then 10 years at the Quality Restaurant. In her free time she enjoyed crafts, especially crochet.

She is survived by her brothers, Norman Woodcock of Dorset, Leslie Woodcock of East Dorset, William Woodcock of Cambridge and Robert Woodcock of Sandgate; her sister, Mary Peters of Sandgate; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Payne was cremated at Vermont Cremation Service in Bennington. Her cremated remains will be committed to the earth in the Factory Point Cemetery during a private family ceremony.
