BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Charlotte Sears, 93, widow of Richard W. Sears Sr., a resident of the Village at Fillmore Pond, Bennington, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Sears had moved to Bennington from Satellite Beach, Fla. in 2001.

Born in Southboro, Mass. Sept. 4, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Charlotte (Lincoln) McMaster. She received her education in the Southboro schools and was a graduate of Southboro High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Sears were married Aug. 23, 1934 in Southboro. Mr. Sears died March 14, 1990.

In earlier years Mrs. Sears was employed as a secretary at Deerfoot Farms in Southboro. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker, wife and mother. She was very proud of her family heritage which had been traced back to Abraham Lincoln.

Her home and family were her main interest. An avid card player, she especially enjoyed playing bridge, poker and bingo.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sen. Richard W. Sears Jr. and his wife Beverly of North Bennington; a sister, Virginia Derosia of Marlboro, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Sears was predeceased by a sister and brother, Edith Ward and Austin McMaster.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Morneault officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday from noon until the time of the service.

Burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland, Mass. at the convenience of the family.
