NORTH POWNAL, VT Christine Randall, 85, born Nov. 25, 1924, put on the armor of light peacefully in her home on Sunday Dec. 6, 2009.

Her passing leaves six children, Martyn, Megan, Paul and his wife, Nancy, Margaret and her husband, Robert Sperber, Honor, Caitlin and her husband, William Barnes. She is sorely missed by her 11 grandchildren who knew her as "Dear"; Giovanna, Emma, Jason, Beau, Jesse, Roxanne, Honor, Owen, Zoë, Luke and Austin. She leaves her dear brothers, John Dawkins of Bennington and Tom Dawkins of Manchester, Conn.

After Christine graduated from Wellesley College in 1946, she studied painting in Perugia, Italy, for two years and spoke beautiful Italian. A fine and original artist, she continued to paint to her last days. On the morning of her death, as she did every day, Christine practiced Bach inventions on the piano. Known for her style, wit, generosity, encyclopedic memory and great sweetness, Christine was a beloved matriarch and artistic inspiration to all who knew her.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Saint Peter's Episcopal Church on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at 1 p.m., where the Burial Office with Holy Eucharist will be offered by Mother Anita Schell-Lambert, Rector.

The burial will take place at the family home in North Pownal.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of the American Civil Liberties Union of Christine may be made to Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, or the World Wildlife Federation through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
