1925 - 2014 BENNINGTON Claire Stone Santway, a resident of Frost Road, passed away Sunday Aug. 24, 2014 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation. Claire was born in Rochester, N.Y. on Nov. 28, 1925 the daughter of Albert Joel and Ethel Maude (Bailey) Stone. She attended schools in Rochester and then attended Albright Art School and the University of Buffalo where she received her Associate Degree. Claire was one of the founders of the Meals on Wheels Program and worked briefly at J.C. Penney. In her 60's she graduated from the Putnam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and helped introduce Reiki Therapy to Vermont. Claire was an artistic painter and did Yoga for many years. She was on the Board of Christian Education and the Board of Missions at Second Congregational Church where she also served on the Board of Deacons. Claire was an advocate of peace-no more wars. Claire is survived by her children; Ruth Clinkscales and her husband, David Baker of Attleboro, Mass., Elsie Santway of Scottsdale, Ga. and Paul Santway and his wife, Tanya of Bennington, sister Carol Hupp of Denver, Colorado, brother-in-law Jerry Jenkins, grandchildren Jason Clinkscales and his fiance, Jesuina Montrond and their son, Jackson Clinkscales; Jennifer Clinkscales and her fiance, Robert Hannah and their children Kyraun and Kymari Hannah; Cara and Daniel Stinson and their children Arianna and Gianna Stinson; Joshua and Nicholas Santway; and David (Davy) Baker, also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended families. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Jenkins and her longtime partner Will Lagasse. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Claire will be held Wednesday September 3, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church in Bennington. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will be held at a later date in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Livonia, New York. There are no visiting hours.
