Obituary Condolences

SLINGERLANDS, N.Y. -- Clara B. Killen, beloved wife of Carroll G. Killen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 3, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was 84. Born in Ruston, she lived in Bennington, Vt. for more than 50 years before moving to the Beverwyck Retirement Community in Slingerlands, N.Y. last December.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1919. She is the daughter of the late Eva Stewart Butler and Oscar C. Butler. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carroll G. Killen, and four children, Gorden Killen, Karen K. (Kenneth) Pass, Lloyd (Judy) Killen, and Sara Killen. In addition, she leaves behind six grandchildren, Amanda K. (Bruce) Roberts, Lisa P. (Todd) Ball, Katherine K. (Aaron) Palumbo, Amy Pass, Andrew Killen and Elizabeth Killen; three sisters, Roberta B. Smith, Sara Butler, and Virginia B. Thomas; one brother, Oscar Butler, many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

She graduated from Louisiana College with a degree in English. She worked for a short time in her family’s lumber business before marrying and moving to Vermont. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was active in the First Baptist Church of Bennington, the American Association of University Women, and the American Red Cross. She enjoyed spending time with her family, entertaining friends, working crossword puzzles, traveling, and growing roses. She is remembered for her kindness toward others, her generous spirit and her love for her family.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Family Group of The Center for the Disabled, 314 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY, 12214-8063.
