1927 - 2016 BENNINGTON Clara Hathaway, age 88, a resident of Brookdale Senior Living at Village Lane and formerly of Park St., died on Friday, January 1, 2016, following a long illness. She was born in Bennington on May 19, 1927. She received her education in local schools. She married Marvin S. Hathaway on September 29, 1945 in Bennington. Mr. Hathaway survives. The couple had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. At the time of her retirement, Mrs. Hathaway was employed at Tansitor Electronics as a production worker. She had formerly been employed at BenMont Paper Company. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was an avid painter, loved spending time in her flower gardens, and spending time with her family. Survivors besides her husband include; one son, William Hathaway and his wife, Betty-Jean of Bennington, and three daughters; Barbara Dommke and her husband, Ronald of Bennington, Patricia Andrews and her husband, Anthony of Bennington, and Donna Sneden and her husband, Thomas of El Cajon, CA. She leaves seven grandchildren: Debra Hathaway, Stephen Hathaway, Brian Dommke, Jennifer Hathaway, Sara Andrews, Michael Andrews and Jessica Andrews as well as five great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her mother and step-father, Irene and Bernard Bolton, and one sister, Nancy Joyce Cruse. SERVICES: At Clara's request there will not be any calling hours, and funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale and the Bennington Area VNA and Hospice for her care while a resident. We appreciate the kind and compassionate care that they provided.
