Clarence A. Hurley Jr.

1940 - 2014 GRANVILLE Clarence A. Hurley Jr., 73, of Granville, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born June 17, 1940, in Bennington, Vt., he was the son of the late Clarence A. Hurley Sr. and Laura Woodard Hurley. Clarence loved farming and had worked on a Ranch in Glendale, Ariz., milking 500 head of cattle. He then worked on the farm of Bob and Eleanor Lourie of Bob-El Farm in Salem and also the Skellie Farm in Jackson, for many years. Clarence loved milking cows and worked hard over the years on the farms. When Clarence wasn't working, he could be found hunting. He hunted all year long and enjoyed coon hunting. He occasionally would go fishing, but had the passion for hunting. Clarence loved stock car racing and as his children were growing up, he would take them walking through the woods watching the wildlife. Clarence and his family lived in many areas including, Glendale, Ariz., North Pownal, Vt., Berlin, N.Y., Petersburgh, N.Y., Grafton, N.Y., Easton, N.Y., Salem, N.Y., Hebron, N.Y. and Granville, N.Y. In addition to his parents, Clarence was also predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Jean Hurley; a sister, Edna Bentley, and his brothers, James and Wally Hurley. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Saralyn (Sally) Michaels Hurley; his children, Edward J. Hurley of Hanover, Penn., Patrick W. Hurley of Hanover, Penn., Robert C. (Tracy) Hurley of North Pownal, Vt., Clarence A. "Andy" (Mary) Hurley, III, of Salem, John C. (Sue) Hurley of Granville, Tammy (Cal) Winners of Schenectady, and Judy L. Cross of Rye, Texas. He is also survived by three brothers, Ralph Hurley of North Pownal, Vt., Henry "Hank" (Debbie) Hurley of Hoosick Falls, and Robert G. Hurley of Cambridge, as well as 22 grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, with the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. Memorial contributions in memory of Clarence may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY 12865.
