Clarence Rice 1927-2012 MANCHESTER, VT Clarence Rice, 84, formerly of Manchester Fields and Haines Manor Road in Manchester, passed away January 25, 2012 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt. Clarence was born in North Bennington, Vt., on June 14, 1927, the son of John and Pearl (Sweet) Rice. He was educated in Williamsville, N.Y., schools and at Bennington High School, class of 1945. Clarence was a World War II veteran (Army Air Corps.) stationed in Guam. He was a SGT (20th fighter wing 20th Air Force). Clarence worked as machinist and tool maker for Mack Molding for nineteen years. He also worked for Globe Union, Creative Tools and Hale Company. Clarence loved fishing and hunting. He played baseball and was an exceptional football player in high school. He coached Little League (Indians) in Arlington. Clarence cherished times spent with his family and was a hard working man who was a good husband, father and grandfather. Clarence is survived by his children: Keith Rice and his wife Charlotte of Cypress, Texas; Brenda Churco and her husband Steven of Shaftsbury; Jeffrey Rice and his wife Sandy of Sunderland; Thomas Rice of Arlington; Betsy Pratt and her husband Peter of Arlington, and Maureen Rice of Manchester Center: his grandchildren, Ryan Rice of Somerville, Mass.; Amber Churco of Bennington; Brett Churco of Southampton, Mass., and Christopher Pratt of Arlington: also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Janice Secoy, whom he married in Bennington on July 12, 1952. Mrs. Rice died October 17, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a grandson Kyle Rice, his brothers: William, Walter, Lincoln, Milford, and a sister Mabel. At the request of the family, funeral services will be private and there will be no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Clarence's memory may be made to the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington or the Manchester Health Services, c/o Brewster Funeral Service, P.O.
