Claude "Chuck" Leslie Matteson, Jr.

1954-2012 BENNINGTON Claude "Chuck" Leslie Matteson, Jr., a resident of Kent Hollow Road in West Rupert, Vermont, passed away Tuesday evening September 25, 2012 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a short illness.

Chuck, as he was affectionately known, was born June 29, 1954 in Brattleboro, Vermont the son of the late Claude L. and Beverly C. (Rice) Matteson. He was raised in Brattleboro and attended Brattleboro schools. On September 26, 1980, he married the former Rebecca Jones, the love of his life and spent many years caring for her. Chuck was employed by the Ford Garage in Manchester, Vt., for many years and worked for Dorr Oil Company as a Burner Technician for over twenty-four years, which during that time had many clients that preferred his expertise. He was a kind and good hard working man. In better times he enjoyed fly fishing and hunting with his son Christopher, and just walking in the woods, as fall was his favorite time of the year.

Chuck is survived by his children Christopher Matteson and his wife Michelle (Andrews) of West Rupert, Vt., and Tammy Matteson and her companion Michael Bice of Manchester, Vt., his brother Theodore Matteson and his wife Teri of Orange, Mass., his sisters Lynda Gundry and her husband Sam of Brattleboro and Elizabeth Young and her husband William of Hinsdale, N.H., and his grandchildren Kaitlin, Lily and Heather sue and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Matteson who passed away five days previous on September 20, 2012 and his brother Bruce who died in 2000.

FUNERAL NOTICE: At the request of the family funeral services will be private. Visiting hours will be held Sunday October 7, 2012 at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont from 2 to 4 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.
