Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mr. Clayton H. “Bill” Jepson, 88, a longtime resident of North Branch Street, died peacefully at his home on Riverside Drive in Bennington Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004. He was born in Bennington Jan. 12, 1916. He was the son of the late John and Jennie (Smith) Jepson. He received his education in Bennington. Mr. Jepson was a United States Navy veteran, having served during World War II.

He married the former Irene Pleasant Aug. 15, 1937 in Bennington. Mrs. Jepson died Sept. 6, 1990.

In earlier years ,Mr. Jepson was employed at EZ Mills in Bennington, and for more than 30 years was employed at Southern Vermont Orchards from which he retired.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, baseball and gardening.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton H. Jepson Jr. and his wife Diana of Clifton Park, N.Y and Gerald and Mary Jepson of Bennington; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jepson Smith and her husband Ethan of North Bennington and Kathleen Williams and her husband James of North Bennington; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Luke Williams of North Bennington; three sisters, Lillian Harrington, Gladys Jepson and Mildred Jepson, all of Shaftsbury; a sister-in-law, Mary Salvi of Haynersville, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Harold Pleasant of West Hoosick, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five brothers, John, Clarence, Charles, Howard and George Jepson, and a sister, Marion Stratton.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

The burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
