BENNINGTON -- Clayton H. “Clayt” Jepson Jr., 65, a resident of Tanner Road, Clifton Park, N.Y., died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at his residence.

Born in Bennington Feb. 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Clayton H. Jepson Sr. and Irene (Pleasant) Jepson. He received his early education in Bennington and was a 1957 graduate of the former Bennington High School. In 1961, he received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

He married the former Diana Reynolds in Clifton Park on July 13, 1996.

Following his graduation from Purdue, Clayt entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. He served during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1964.

For 33 years, Clayt was employed as principal economist by the State of New York in Albany.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed photography, fishing and hunting with his brother, Jerry.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Jepson of Clifton Park; three stepchildren, Frederick Test and Nicole Volungus of Mechanicville, N.Y. and James Test of Schenectady, N.Y.; six stepgrandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Mary Jepson of Bennington; his beloved nieces and their husbands, Kathleen and James Williams and Jennifer and Ethan Smith of North Bennington; two great-nephews, Noah and Luke Williams; two aunts and an uncle, Gladys Jepson and Lillian Harrington of Shaftsbury and Harold Pleasant of West Hoosick, N.Y.; and several cousins.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.
