LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Mr. Clayton L. White, 88, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Saturday afternoon, April 10, 2004, at Winter Haven Hospital (FL) of congestive heart failure.

He was born July 3, 1915 in Burlington, Vt., and was a winter visitor to Lake Wales since 1954 and resident since 1966, coming from Bennington, Vt. He owned and operated C.L. White Glass Company in Bennington and became a building contractor in Lake Wales. He retired in 1985. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Lake Wales Elks Lodge No. 1974. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Lake Wales Country Club and Mount Anthony Country Club in Bennington. He was of the protestant faith.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret White of Lake Wales; a daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Crowell of Lake Wales; a stepdaughter, Patricia (Michael) Waters of North Bennington, Vt.; a stepson, William Roberts of Wilmington; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Dr. John V. Glamann of the Lake Wales Lutheran Church officiating. Services in North Bennington, Vty. will be announced.

Memorials of remembrance may be made to Bennington Fire Rescue, McKinley Street, Bennington, Vt., or to the charity of your choice.
