Clement D. Greene Jr. 1931-2011 EAST SHAFTSBURY Clement David Greene Jr., age 80, a resident of Rt. 67 East in Shaftsbury, died on Monday evening, June 13, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Shaftsbury, Vt. on May 22, 1931, and was the son of the late Clement Sr. and Emily Rice Greene. He received his education in local schools. He was retired from Stanley Tool Company in Shaftsbury, where he had been employed for twenty three years. Clement had previously worked at McCollough Farms, the Hale Company and at Paper Mill Village. He served with the 8th Armored Division in the Army stationed in Seoul, Korea. Clement married the former Marilyn Green in Shaftsbury on March 6, 1954. Clement was a 17 year member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department, and a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was deeply devoted to his family. Besides his wife, he is survived by his six children including Wanda J. Ellis of Shaftsbury, Michael D. Greene Sr. and his wife , Penny, of Shaftsbury, Elaine S. Geoffroy and her husband, Raymond, of Lowell, Vt., Crystal D. Sandquist and her husband, George Jr., of Shaftsbury, Timothy C. Greene and wife, Nicole, of North Bennington and Kevin L Greene and wife, Tina, of Shaftsbury. He leaves 17 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. His sisters and brothers: Buelah M. Mattison of Shaftsbury, Jenny L. Bishop of Woodford, Arthur F. Greene of Shaftsbury, Douglas E. Greene of Shaftsbury and Richard R. Greene of Shaftsbury, and several nieces, nephews and cousins Clement was predeceased by one brother, Myron H. Greene Sr. ; and one granddaughter, Maria L. Greene. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St. Bennington with Kenneth Coonradt, Chaplain of the Vermont Veterans Home, officiating. Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery where full military honors will be offered. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. Members of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington are asked to meet at 6:15 to conduct services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shaftsbury Fire Department, through the EP Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
