HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Clifford J. Guile, 97, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, where he had resided for the past seven years. He was the husband of the late Gladys (Hunt) Guile.

He was born April 3, 1906 in Eagle Bridge, the son of the late Clifford H. and Anna Louise (Marshall) Guile. He was educated at schools in Eagle Bridge. Clifford was a self-employed carpenter and electrician in the area. He was employed at the Agway in Eagle Bridge, retiring from there in 1986. Clifford built and operated the Rose Garden in Eagle Bridge for several years. He was a communicant of St. Monica’s Church, formerly in Johnsonville and St. Bridget’s Church, formerly in Buskirk. Clifford took great pleasure in listening to his son, John, play the piano.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Kelly and her husband, Emerson of Schenectady; three sons, John B.C. and his wife, Ann Marie (Flynn) Guile, of Hoosick Falls, George and his wife, Mary (Scaglione) Guile of Eagle Bridge and David Guile of Albany; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two sons, Carl and Francis Guile, four sisters, Loretto Geren, Julia Fredrick, Agnes Madigon and Mary Sherman, and a brother, John R. Guile.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 12:15 p.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls.

A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1 p.m. from Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cambridge.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hoosick Falls Health Center or the charity of your choice through the funeral home.
