Clifford Pierce Sr. 1929 - 2008 MANCHESTER, VT. Clifford Frederick Pierce Sr, 78, of Manchester Center, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Bennington, surrounded by four generations of his loving family. Born in Red Bank, N.J., on July 8, 1929, son of Hobart T. and Josephine Wunsch Pierce, the family moved to Middletown, N.Y., in 1933. He was a member of the Middletown High School, class of 1947. He also graduated from Charter Class of Associated Colleges of Upper New York in 1949, forerunner of Orange County Community College, and completed his education at the University of New York at New Paltz. Mr. Pierce enlisted in the Army and served in Korea in the Armored Artillery from 1951-1953 as a Frst Lieutenant He received two Purple Hearts and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Mr. Pierce was an accomplished engineer, draftsmen, airplane pilot and successful entrepreneur of several businesses. He founded Pierce Industries in Walden, N.Y., in 1957, which he owned and operated for 29 years. He also founded Manchester Wood in Manchester Center in 1976. It continues to operate today in Granville, N.Y. An active member of Christian churches throughout his life, he was currently a member of the Federated Church of East Arlington. He lived his faith by example, greeting everyone he met with his favorite phrase, "God Bless You!" He received the Chevalier Degree as Charter Master Counselor of DeMolay, Hoffman Lodge No. 412, F. & A.M. and he was also a member of the Adoniram Lodge in Manchester. His greatest love was his family, especially his wife, Evelyn Mitchell Pierce, whom he married June 25, 1950. His character and faith will live forever through his four children, son, Clifford "Chip" Pierce and his wife, Ann; daughter, Cynthia Pierce Jamieson and husband, John; daughter, Priscilla Pierce Eriksen and husband, Edward, and daughter, Jan Pierce Felter; his 12 grandchildren, and his eight great-grandchildren; his dear Aunt Wilma Pierce, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Mr. Pierce was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Hobart J. Pierce. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church of East Arlington, Ice Pond Road, East Arlington, Vt., with a reception in Bailey Hall to follow.
