BENNINGTON Mrs. Cora E. Sears, age 93, a resident of School Street, died on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a brief illness.Cora was the daughter of the late Mirle and Mabel (Stratton) Elwell. She received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School, class of 1939. Mrs. Sears had worked in earlier years at the Bennington Brush Company for over forty years. She later was employed at CTC Photofactory and also in the office at the Loyal Order of Moose #1233. She was a member of the Women of the Moose #1018 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #1332 where she was an active member with the Color Guard. Mrs. Sears was also a life member of the American Legion Post Auxiliary Post #13 in Bennington. Her hobbies included reading and working on jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Lorette of Bennington; a son, Robert G. Sears, Jr. of Bennington; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great -great-grandson; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Cora is predeceased by one sister, Anna G. Cross., and her former husband, Robert Sears. Sr. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children and Youth of the American Legion through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
